Classic Champagne Cocktail Recipe | Simple and Delicious

Need a simple champagne cocktail idea? Then go with the classic champagne cocktail which dates back to the 1850’s. I am going to break down this simple champagne cocktail recipe to ensure your next party is a success. Since this started in the mid 1800’s it is important to remember how sweet champagne was back then which was more than 50 g/l. This is the sweetest style we have today and it is known as Doux. To learn more about sugar levels in champagne, click here. In this recipe I used a Brut Champagne which normally is 9 g/l. However, you can use a different style of champagne. This is a super simple and easy recipe that only requires 4 ingredients.

Ingredients:

Brut Champagne

Sugar Cube

Angostura Bitters

Lemon Twist for garnish

Start by chilling your champagne flute or coupe - you can do this by placing it in the freezer or by placing ice cubes in the glass (I used ice cubes as I was nervous about leaving the glass in the freezer). Then you will take the sugar cube and place it on a spoon or in a small bowl. Next you will add around 3 dashes of bitters to the sugar cube. Once the bitters are soaked on the sugar cube, gently place the sugar cube in the champagne flute or coupe. Fill the glass with champagne it is a good idea to leave some room at the top of the glass in case there is some slight fizz. Next garnish with the lemon twist. Serve immediately to your guests, as this cocktail is best served chilled.

This cocktail is so easy and takes only a couple of minutes to make. It is the perfect way to begin or end an evening. This is the classic version and there are many other versions and adaptations. I will be sharing a lot more champagne cocktail recipes to ensure you are ready to host your next party. Simple adaptations can change the flavor profile and different champagnes can also alter the end result.

I will be sharing more simple champagne cocktail recipes with you! Santé!
