Biodynamics and Champagne Event Reims | Lifestyle

I had the pleasure of attending an incredible event in Reims focused on biodynamics and champagne.

What is Biodynamics?

Biodynamic champagne growers value the vineyards in which they work in. Biodynamics was first developed in 1924 by Rudolph Steiner and focuses on treating the vineyards with naturally made treatments in order to combat diseases. It is considered the first organic movement. The philosophy focuses on treating animals, soil and crops as one. Lunar calendars are used for planting, treatments, and even for when the best day to taste the wines are. Biodynamie et Champagnes by Fabrice Dehoche focuses on the champagne growers who are committed to this practice in the region.

During the event we had the opportunity to taste some biodynamic champagnes including Shaman from Champagne Benoit Marguet.

The event highlighted the important work that the biodynamic growers are contributing to the region. They are not using herbicides, pesticides or synthetic products on the earth. A lot of them are working with horses to plow the soils.

It was great to hear from the champagne growers who are practicing biodynamic farming.
